The book follows 4 students who are accused of the murder of their classmate Simon. Simon is not someone people really liked due to the gossip app he created to share secrets he found out about the other students in the school. Before I even started reading this book I already got the vibes from the book cover that it was inspired by The Breakfast Club, I later found out after finishing the book that this was indeed exactly the case.
When I started reading this book I was extremely excited to see where the plot would go. As I read I made notes to keep track of my thoughts and ideas of who could have murdered Simon and what their motive was, almost as if I was part of the investigation myself. There were quite a few moments where I thought each one of the 4 students could have done it but I also had a couple theories about 'Outside' sources who it might have been instead. I wont go into detail about who they were as it would involve spoilers.
Due to the many characters the book follows, there are many point of view switches throughout every chapter. I found that very hard to get used to as I much prefer when a new chapter is a different point of view instead of the changes within chapters. Though I definitely think that the way it was written worked perfectly for the story and plot. It just took me a little while to get used to it but I finally did towards the middle of the book.
I was very intrigued after reading about how Simon had died. It seemed very well planned and thought through for a murder. At the time of reading it, there was a thought in the back of my mind that it couldn't have been a murder but that was just one theory I had. There were many times where I thought it was definitely more than one person working as a team to frame the other students, I just had trouble figuring out who it was until I got closer to the end. I won't spoil the ending but I will say one of my many theories was in fact correct.
There was one 'Side plot' going on throughout the book that I saw coming a mile off. I loved every second of it and was finding myself getting really happy for those characters it was about. I can't say too much about what it was due to spoilers but I found it extremely cute and it worked really well with the plot itself.
overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend reading it. I actually picked up the sequel to this before I had even finished reading the book and I cannot wait to start reading that one also.
